To locate your misplaced device, you can use Apple's Find My app (formerly known as Find My iPhone), an Apple Watch, iCloud, or a family member's iPhone or iPad.
If you suspect your iPhone has been stolen or if you simply don't want it to fall into the wrong hands, you can remotely erase the data on it so that no one else may use it. Here's how to go about it.
In IOS, Apple added a valuable feature called Activation Lock. This is a useful feature because if a third party does not have the password to your iCloud account, your phone would become inoperable. Your phone can be entirely erased, but if you use iCloud and have enabled Activation Lock, no one else can use it.
Because Activation Lock is tied to Find My iPhone, if you have Find My iPhone turned on, your device will also have Activation Lock turned on.
To begin, go to Settings > At the top of the page, tap on your iCloud profile > Select Find My iPhone from the menu. If your battery is low and soon to die, tap Send My Last Location (this will send Apple a notification about your device's location).
In the event that your iPhone is lost, the most critical function to activate is Find My iPhone; however, employing a passcode and two-factor authentication is also a good idea.
